Hope

Psalm 147:11 says, “The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” My hope is not in doctors and medicine, nor in vitamins and nutrition. It is not in others, my church, or myself. My hope cannot be in my own discipline or in my determination to make things better.

I need to follow where He leads, and not follow man, or knowledge, or even wisdom. I must follow the Way, the Truth, and the Life, Jesus Christ Himself. If He leads me down a dark path, I will follow. If all looks bleak to my physical eye, I will follow His voice that speaks to the eyes of my heart. I will neither despair nor fear, for He promises to go before me, fight for me, and — when it seems fit — even carry me.

How our weakness allows His divine power to be manifested!

Sometimes we need to be carried; other times, we need to walk in the darkness, moving only by faith, listening intently to the Shepherd’s voice. He determines what we need every moment, and we can rest assured He is working out His finest purposes.

We may feel we need to be carried, and we may cry desperately for Him to do so. But He sees our heart, and desires to strengthen it (2 Chronicles 16:9). We are not (seemingly) left without help because we are weak, but because our hearts are fully committed to Him. His eyes roam throughout the earth, and when He finds those who are “wholehearted,” He strengthens them, sometimes by carrying them, but most often through trials and suffering. Though our outer being is falling apart, inwardly we are being renewed. We may not “feel” His strength when we “need to,” but through our weakness, He is enlarging our spirit in unseen and unfelt ways. How our weakness allows His divine power to
be manifested!
